Advocate & Legislative Expert

Sharafat Ali Chaudhry is an advocate, legislative drafting expert and an academician who has served as Legal Consultant for the Federal Ministry of Law & Justice and the Federal Ministry of Human Rights. He has worked as a Legal Expert with the UN agencies and different national and International Non-profit Organizations including UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, UNFAO, The Asia Foundation, Oxford Policy Management and Group Development Pakistan.
Recent legislative contributions include Gilgit-Baltistan Commission on the Status of Women Act, 2022; the Peshawar High Court (Virtual Court Proceedings) Rules, 2021; the Islamabad Capital Territory Child Protection Act, 2018; the Juvenile Justice System Act, 2018; the National Commission on the Rights of the Child Act, 2017; the Hindu Marriage Act, 2017; the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2017, the Cost of Litigation Act, 2017; and the Balochistan Child Protection Act, 2016.
Mr. Chaudhry is the co-author of Handbook on Child Courts. He has been intensively involved in training of judicial officers, prosecutors and lawyers on human rights laws, in particular juvenile justice, child protection and gender sensitive prosecution. He is the founding Chairperson of the School for Law and Development and the founding partner of the law firm Hassan, Sharafat and Umer Advocates (HSU Advocates).
As an adjunct faculty member, he teaches International Law, Human Rights Law and Criminal Law at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy, Sindh Judicial Academy and Iqra University.
